The canopy is the job here
The Grove has the heaviest tree cover of anywhere we run. Live oak, royal poinciana, mango, black olive, and gumbo limbo, often four or five mature trees over one small yard. In June a poinciana will carpet the surface in orange in a single afternoon, and by the next morning it has sunk.
That timing matters. Anything organic that reaches the floor starts feeding algae and starts working on your plaster. A weekly visit in the North Grove pulls more material out of one pool than three pools in Doral combined. We plan longer on Grove stops and we price them accordingly, which is honest rather than convenient.
If you have a poinciana or a big mango directly over the water, tell us when you call. We will usually suggest a second visit for six weeks in early summer and back to weekly after, which costs less than the algae bloom you would otherwise be paying to fix.
Old pools and older equipment
Plenty of Grove pools were built in the fifties and sixties. Small, deep, marcite finish, one skimmer, and a pump that has been rebuilt twice. Single skimmer pools with a big leaf load are a bad combination, because the one basket packs and then the surface stops moving.
We log filter pressure on every visit for exactly this reason. On an older DE or cartridge filter, a pressure that climbs 4 or 5 psi over a few weeks tells us the filter needs service before you notice cloudy water. On the pump side, we listen. A bearing starting to go sounds different at week two than at week ten, and catching it early is the difference between a $180 motor and a $600 one.
Access, and why we ask about it
Half the Grove is narrow streets, gravel drives, and side gates that were never meant for a pool pole. Some yards we walk equipment in fifty yards from the street. None of that is a problem, we just need to know before the first visit so we bring the right length pole and the right gate code. Sailboat Bay and the streets right off the water also get salt in the breeze, so equipment there corrodes faster than a mile inland.
